Having a room mate or flatmate is ok if you are single but someone outside can lead to some disruptions on do's and dont's. Depends on who own the house etc.

As for living together in relationship it still class as de facto relationship.

Even daryl and i been together for 11 years and no M word as we both been there done that.

Everyone has different opinion to be honest :)

Yes, it's possible. Although I bet the majority doesn't work out that well. At least not from what I've read.

I agree, it's invaluable since a lot of lessons would be learned while living on your own. I know I did.

Now, to answer your question...

To make a long story short... I've known her since I was five. We were just casual friends throughout our lives until a few years ago. We didn't see each other for years before that. We formed a strong relationship, now we are pretty much joined at the hips these days.

... and yes, she is profoundly deaf too. One heck of a lipreader though!

"Married With Roommates" sounds like a companion show to "Married With Children".

Honestly, while I'm sure it's *possible* to have a non-traumatic arrangement, I agree that it's much easier on a marriage (especially a new one) to spend time together, I'm equally sure there's quite a few people without that luxury.

Definitely people should live independently for a while -- there's a lot of lessons to learn that way and it's absolutely invaluable. However, one function marriage has had throughout history was pooling of resources: two people together did better than one. I think there's a lot of deformation and stress in modern society that obscures this a little (the two income trap, for example) but in the larger scope of history, that's always been true.

BTW, if I haven't already, congrats on your upcoming marriage! How did you meet her? Is she deaf too? You sound terribly excited & I'm happy for you...
